The Executive Director

Rev. Otto B. Schultz

Rev. Otto B. Schultz, MDiv. is the Executive Director and an ex-officio board member. He has been a Pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC) for over 40 years.  He has been a congregational Pastor, treatment Chaplain, intervention and prevention educator, grant writer, and program developer. He also appears to be a failure at retirement.

The Board of Directors

The Board of Directors for the Center for the Restoration of Impaired Clergy (CRIC) consists of a gifted group of nine professionals from eight different denominations and many different regions parts of the country. They bring a variety of experiences in pastoral ministry, business, finance, systems analysis, education, and therapeutic care. Several enjoy many years of stable recovery working a 12-step program. They have all agreed to serve because they have seen the devastation behavioral health problems cause churches. More importantly, they know how recovery deeply enriches ministry.  

Rev. Dr. Matthew DuVall

Rev. Dr. Matthew DuVall, D. Min. is the Senior Director of Substance Use Disorders and Recovery for the Clinton Foundation. A person in recovery, he helps lead the Empowering Faith Leaders program—an effort to educate, motivate, and mobilize interfaith groups of faith leaders around the addiction and overdose crisis. Matt has more than 2 decades of experience serving Baptist congregations and working in theological education.

Fr. Stephen E. Lane

Fr. Stephen E. Lane, BS in Management Information Systems, M. Div. is an Episcopal priest serving St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Buffalo NY.  His prior experiences included 28 years of owning a retail store and working as a Systems Analyst for Boeing and NASA. 

Rev. Wendy Miller Olapade

Rev. Wendy Miller Olapade, M. Div. is Lead Pastor and Connector in Chief at Sanctuary United Church of Christ, Medford MA. Before her nearly 30 years in ministry, she managed marketing, sales, and business process reengineering teams. She is President of the CRIC’s Board of Directors. 

Dawn M. McCord 

Dawn M McCord PCC, CBFRLC is a family and parent recovery coach, author and educator. After writing a book about their family’s journey through adolescent addiction, Dawn became a Family Recovery Life Coach. She is called to help families navigate their loved ones’ substance use problems. Her Christian faith and knowledge of addiction have taught her that there is always a “why”. By understanding that there is a “why” we can have more empathy even if we don’t understand what the “why” is. Dawn coaches families, facilitates support groups, and teaches prevention and intervention classes.

Rev. Dr. Andrew Scanlan-Holmes

Rev. Dr. Andrew Scanlan-Holmes, D. ThM, is Senior Pastor at Roberts Park United Methodist Church in downtown Indianapolis, IN.  Prior to entering the ministry, he worked in professional theatre and television production, ran his own video production company, and was a partner in a $1.4 million manufacturing concern where he was responsible for finance and administration. He is Treasurer of the CRIC Board of Directors.

Rt. Rev. Brian Seage

Rt. Rev. Brian Seage, MDiv. is the recently retired Episcopal Bishop of Mississippi where he has served since 2015. He was a youth minister and Priest since 1988 and served successful growing parishes before becoming Bishop.

Mr. David Shellenberger

Mr. David Shellenberger, RN, BSN President and CEO, St. John Vianney Center (SJVC).  David has over 25 years of clinical and executive healthcare leadership experience in varied settings. Established in 1946, SJVC is the oldest and largest treatment program for Catholic Clergy and Men and Women Religious. SJVC also welcomes protestant clergy. Located in suburban Philadelphia, it has outpatient, residential and educational, and prevention services. He is Vice-President of the CRIC’s Board of Directors.

Rev. Anna Terman-White

Rev. Anna Terman-White, BA, MA, M.Div. is a Pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Omaha, NE. She has numerous certifications including Stress Studies and Sex Therapy. She was a Pastor serving congregations for over 15 years prior to becoming a therapist.

Rev. Elizabeth Denham Thompson

Rev. Elizabeth Denham Thompson, M. Div., LFMT, AAPC Fellow, is a Pastor in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She is the founder and lead consultant of Eremos Consulting Group, a company devoted to consulting with and coaching clergy, congregations, and non-profit organizations in times of difficult transition. She is a therapist, organizational consultant, and experienced fundraiser living in Denver CO.

Rev. Dr. Harold Dean Trulear

Rev. Dr. Harold Dean Trulear, Ph.D.  has been Associate Professor of Applied Theology at Howard University School of Divinity since 2003. He has also taught at Templeton Honors College, Yale University and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. His administrative experience includes Dean of First Professional Programs at New York Theological Seminary and Vice President for Faith Based Initiatives at Public Private Ventures. He is currently a pastoral associate at Praise and Glory Tabernacle in Philadelphia.

Associate Board Members

Associate Board Members are volunteers with specialized skills. Staff and Board Members seek their input from time to time in their specialized area. They are welcome to attend Board meetings where they have a voice but not a vote. These Associates have no term limits and work at the pleasure of the Board of Directors.

Mary Louise Bewley, APR – Communications & Marketing

Mary Louise has a degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland. She is also accredited by the Public Relations Society of America. During her more than 30-year career, Mary Louise Bewley served as the head of communications for a variety of Indiana public school districts and a  municipality. She is accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America. Along with CRIC, Mary Louise currently assists an Indianapolis Methodist church with its communications needs.

Chad Harmon – Technology

Chad Harmon has worked in Information Technology for over 30 years serving many Fortune 500 companies throughout the world as well as local businesses. Many small organizations pay attention to IT only when reacting to a crisis. His favorite role is helping such organizations like CRIC manage their IT proactively. His many years of experience have given him a multitude of contacts with specialized expertise in IT.

Eric Lampela – Employee Recovery Programs

Eric Lampela is a former U.S. Navy F-14 pilot and Captain at FedEx. During his tenure, he proudly served as the Drug and Alcohol Program Administrator (HIMS) for both the FedEx pilots’ union (ALPA) and the company. Now retired, Eric continues to give back as an Associate Board Member of CRIC and to individuals seeking recovery support. He and his wife of 47 years split their time between Franklin, Tennessee and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, cherishing time with their two daughters, a wonderful son-in-law, and three beloved grandchildren.

Dr. James Yankech – Research

Jim Yankech (PhD, SPHR) currently serves as Assistant Professor of Business and MBA Program Director at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln Nebraska. Jim previously worked as an account management insurance executive, a higher education administrator, a healthcare administrator, and a mental health clinician. He earned a PhD in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jim is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and is an elected member of the Synod Council of the Nebraska Synod of the ELCA.
