We’re Connecting

New Name We’re connecting with a new name.  We are now The Center for the Restoration of Impaired Clergy.  It makes it sound like we occupy a whole floor of a downtown office building.

Faith-Based Behavioral Health Programs: We’ve had some preliminary discussions with Faith Partners https://www.faith-partners.org/ and with Center of Addiction and Faith, (CAF) about ways to partner https://www.addictionandfaith.com/ We’ve made plans with each of them to do training for clergy this summer.

Research: We’re connecting with data.  Dr. Jim Yankech of the Nebraska Synod ELCA, has taken on the task of researching data in three areas:  The success of other impaired professionals programs; the need for impaired professional programming among clergy; and how such programming for clergy will result in cost savings.

Relationships: We continue to grow relationships with an increasing number of church governing bodies.  While all of these are in the very early stages, they are promising.  By early next year we hope to identify 6 to 10 governing bodies as sites for piloting the Compassionate Accountability approach to behaviorally troubled clergy.

Funding: We’re connecting with congregational endowments and foundations to fund the next phase of our development.  A $24,000 budget will enable us to have part-time staff who can complete the build out of the resource packet, identify pilot sites and provide long-term financial stability. The $4,000 that has already been donated or pledged means we can move ahead starting on June 1.  If you know a church endowment or foundation, please contact Otto.

Four Phases Planned:

Phase II – 6/24-12/24: Set up the non-profit, seek funding for Phase III from major grant makers, complete the program design and set up pilot sites.

Phase III – 1/25-12-27: Do proof of concept with pilot projects in 6 to 10 judicatories.

Phase IV – 1/28 – Disseminate the policy and programming to all governing bodies.
